CBRAIN offers an easy-to-use web interface for researchers to access HPC and Cloud Computing resources, providing them with simplified but powerful access to advanced computational resources for scientific research.

Resources are provided through partnership with an internationally distributed network of service providers, including the Digital Research Alliance of Canada, the Minnesota Supercomputing Institute, the Jülich Supercomputing Centre, the San Diego Supercomputing Center, the Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center and others, offering streamlined access to computing and data capacity for the research community.

CBRAIN offers a structured environment for software integration that simplifies the sharing of complex analytical pipelines that facilitate collaboration and research reproducibility. CBRAIN tool integrations use the Boutiques Descriptive Framework to facilitate the automatic creation of a standardized GUI that provides access to different pipeline options. This simplifies the experience of new users who are using the research tools, allowing them to focus on the science.

Analyze and View Large Datasets Online

CBRAIN provides a simple to use web interface for users to manage and work with large datasets. CBRAIN improves productivity by facilitating online viewing of both pre-processed and post-processed data, enabling research teams to perform remote quality assurance in the browser, without reliance on locally installed software. BrainBrowser supports visualization features in CBRAIN, directly in the browser. Within CBRAIN, users are able to access large data repositories such as the UK Biobank, the Canadian Open Neuroscience Platform (CONP) and OpenNeuro.

CBRAIN supports a diverse range of standards-based data storage types for HPC and Cloud-based systems, allowing researchers to securely store, organize and transfer data seamlessly across the globally connected set of resources for large-scale data analysis.

Automated Workflows and Provenance Tracking

CBRAIN has a multitude of computational pipelines that allow researchers to perform complex big data analytics. The suite of available pipelines cover the full spectrum of neuroinformatics needs covering structural MRI, functional MRI preprocessing and analysis, tractography, PET, EEG, arterial spin labeling, as well as genetics including single-cell transcriptomics.

Through the CBRAIN web interface, users select the data to analyze, the processing pipeline to analyze it with and the parameters to be applied, launching the processing tasks across the connected set of resources with a “single click", increasing computational speeds and reducing the time to achieve results. CBRAIN automatically maintains detailed log files, making provenance tracking and quality control easier, and ensuring reproducibility. CBRAIN is a completely general platform that could be used in other research area settings.
